the double standard

Everything you didn't care to know about but just had to know

SO MUCH to talk about….myself.

Ok. So I haven’t written a blog post in it seems like a year. At times, The Double Standard will double, (see what I just did there?) as my own personal diary but instead of listing the myriad excuses, lets just delve into the good stuff. My psychiatrist told me that I am perfect, so nothing to see here.

I am reinvigorated, which not so coincidentally is linked to the start of the new NBA season. This looks like it will be an even better year as the league has managed to turn over a new leaf with only a few players left from the last generation aka the Jordan Era. (If you played when Mike still ‘wheelchaired’ his way up and down the court with the Wizards, then you are part of the old guard, in my opinion.) It doesn’t mean that you are ineffective (see Garnett, Nash, Nowitzki, Kobe, to name a few) it just means that the  ‘L’, is teeming with young, exciting players and even more intriguing teams.  I could go on and on and I will but I have quite a few things that I will post in the next coming weeks, so lets get to it.

1. The 2nd annual NBA preview is back with Josh Hundert, my friend and owner of @knottycase, doing his best prognostication of the Eastern Conference this year. I will hold down the Western Conference. The year of Alec Burks is slowly taking shape.

2. I got a few articles that I will post as well. They will range in topic to lead singers of the 90’s, my journey learning the art of standup, a post on my understanding of baseball sabremetrics, a boxing profile on my top fights to watch this year.

3. We got some videos coming up as well. Stay tuned for a vid on Entrepreneurs talking about the art of entrepreneuring, our highly anticipated remake of the 2005 Castillo vs Corrales fight, a scene from documentary Box On!, my first stand up show and a couple other goodies that I’ve been working on this year.

4. I will do better to post more NBA, Boxing, Football related musings. I will get some contribution from nutty friends such as @philjones2020 and Carlo Bodrogi. Carlo is so ‘carazy’ that he doesn’t even have one twitter post.

6. I will try not to trash the Blue Jays this winter. Disappointing doesn’t even begin to describe it. I checked out in August. ughhh.

5. And as always, I will post unique ways the world sees the world through social media, youtube and other pop culture sites and newspapers. “What me have an opinion?” Sadly, and more humorously, yes I will. I cared a little too much about Bachelor Pad, but too much is in the eye of the beholder. If there was more episodes, I woulda watched them.

Once again, thanks for not following. It’s not you. It’s me.

WATCH THIS! Brand New video from the legend that is director Stuey Kubrick from the all new supergroup ZZBRA.

Hey Stuey, Moka and Evil, let me proceed to shout at you for a second:

“THIS IS THE FIRST SONG, IN A LONG TIME, THAT I’VE GIVEN THE BLACK GUY NOD OF APPROVAL. IT’S THE NOD WHERE YOU SCREW YOUR FACE UP AND KEEP SAYING “GOOD GOD” OVER AND OVER….”

REVIEW:

The boys, Moka and Evil spit raps of which the lyrics don’t matter. (And I mean that in a good way.)

The beat is all ass and jungle ready.  Take a moment to picture that statement for a sec. I had a problem with it at first, then I took a moment to think about it.

Ya, I don’t make any sense, but the song feels like it’s awesome as hell, so I am keeping that comment in.

In honor of Black History Month and for being smart with your money, go out and grab you some ZZBRA ass for Valentine’s Day.

The Truth by Tyrone- Now you see it..Maybe you won’t.

Welcome back to the Double Standard. It’s been a while since I’ve  checked in, but we are back with a regular feature called The Truth by Tyrone. Our new writer, Tyrone Thompson, will spit truth and knowledge about  films and the culture surrounding motion pictures. Disclaimer: These thoughts reflected here do not necessarily represent the Double Standard, but we agree 100%. Enjoy.

ALEX CROSS IS DEAD.
by Tyrone Thompson

Tyler Perry is going to take over the role of Dr. Alex Cross.
The role previously mastered by your beloved Morgan Freeman.
Now i understand that Morgan Freeman, pushing a not so spry age of 75 in June, but this is the single WORST display of film casting i have ever seen! No way does Tyler Perry have the emotional range and intellectual depth of Freeman!
Freeman’s two roles in 1997’s Kiss The Girls and 2001’s Along Came A Spider are going to be considered classic now that the reins have been taken over by fucking “Madea”!

I’m not sure what the title of the next Dr.Alex Cross film will be, but I’ve read that big stunt action flick director Rob Cohen (Daylight), (XXX),(The Fast and The Furious) is going to man up for this one and Paramount wants to launch this new 3 film franchise.

I personally feel they should go straight to Patterson’s last Cross novel - Kill Alex Cross - because that is now the appropriate way to describe what is surely going to happen to this character.

That’s my status and i’m sticking to it!
